Dinton, Wiltshire
Dinton is a small village partly owned by the National Trust following a bequeath in 1943 by Bertram Phillips in 1943, and another later on. The first bequeath included Dinton Park (the parkland is open to the public but with poor disabled access), also Phillips House, Grade II* (formerly called Dinton House, and not open to the public), Hydes House, and Schoolroom (also not open to the public). Dinton Lodge, built in 1896 and Grade II Listed; Wright's Farm, with its lovely entrance; the Church of St Mary the Virgin, Grade I; and the aforementioned NT properties, are all in St Mary's Road and worth seeing from the lane. Continue on to Snow Hill lane to see the thatched Wheatsheaf Cottage, and beyond the thatched Jesses barn, 18th century, and Jesses house, which is Elizabethan, and Grade II Listed. The National Trust were, separately, bequeathed Little Clarendon, Grade II*, 15th century, which is open to the public, this is in Hindon Road, around the corner from Snow Hill.
