Biddestone, Wiltshire
Biddestone is a village and parish in northwest Wiltshire, about 3 miles from Chippenham and 2 miles from Corsham, the parish includes the hamlet of Slaughterford. If you happen to be in the area it's worth a brief stop-off, longer if the fete or private gardens are open. The splendid 17th century Manor House, situated prominently on the Biddestone village green, is Grade II* Listed and the church of St Nicholas is 13th century and Grade I Listed. In all Biddestone and Slaughterford have 91 Listed buildings, a significant number for two small settlements. Don't miss the 17th century Pool Farmhouse and The Close, behind the high wall opposite the Biddestone village pond, this is 18th century, though largely reconstructed 1924-9.
