Castle Combe, Wiltshire
There is very little to Castle Combe but what there is is very handsome, and a visit to the Manor House Hotel, Castle Inn, or White Hart, extends the pleasure. Of course it's interesting for fans of the original 'Doctor Dolittle' film to see the area by the bridge, which was imaginatevely turned into a port; the main street where the boy lost his horse to the army in the First World War film 'War Horse'; and the bridge, ridden over in 'Wolfman', and more.
Pretty much every building from around the bridge to the Castle Inn is Listed, Grade II, and date from the 16th to 18th century, the latter being along Water Lane, and the older along The Street. The Church of St Andrew dates from the 13th century, but is mainly 15th century.
Film/TV Location For: Doctor Dolittle; Doctor Thorne; Wolf Hall; Stardust; War Horse; Robin Of Sherwood; The Murder Of Roger Ackroyd; Wolfman
