Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip visit Salisbury
I regularly visit Salisbury, especially to enjoy Salisbury Cathedral - most especially if there's an event on. Cathedral Close, and the 600+ Listed buildings make Salisbury somewhere not to be missed. The walk through Queen Elizabeth Park, around Harnham Water Meadows, through Harnham, and back into Cathedral Close, which is pretty easy going on a mobility scooter, is beautiful. John Constable agreed, painting it often, and the views he chose, of the Cathedral seen from the meadows, are little changed. My favourite places for lunch are Boston Tea Party, Cosy Club, the cafe at Salisbury Museum, especially on a sunny day in the garden, and Salisbury Cathedral's own Refectory Restaurant. If you fancy a little independent shopping in Salisbury how about: Regent men's  tailors; Casa Fina for interiors; Roly's Fudge handmade every day; Fisherton Mill Gallery - the largest independent art galley in the South West; or Greenfields Gunsmiths, for a secondhand 12 Bore Beretta SO6 EELL over and under game gun for less than £27,000?!

Several of the 644 Listed buildings are Grade I, most of them feature here, of course including Salisbury Cathedral, which is now more than 800 years old. Other Grade I buildings include: the Old Mill, on the Town Path, that dates back to the 14th/15th century, The Matron's College at the entrance to The Close from the High Street; The Old George Inn, in the High Street, 14th century, which is now the Boston Tea Party;  The Joiners’ Hall, at 56 Saint Anne's Street, that's the 17th century guildhall of Salisbury’s Joiners’ Company; and John Halle's Hall, 15th century, which is now the entrance to the Odeon cinema.

Though various kings and queens, including Elizabeth II, have visited Salisbury, as well as the composer Handel, it was John Constable's visits that until 2018, because of his paintings of Salisbury Cathedral, we're probably most remembered. Then came the Novichok poisonings on 04 March 2018, by Russia, of double agent Sergei Skripal, his daughter Yulia, policeman Det Sgt Nick Bailey, as well as bystanders Charlie Rowley and Dawn Sturgess. Whilst the others recovered Dawn sadly died, she had sprayed herself from what she thought was simply a discarded perfume bottle, but which in fact housed the deadly nerve agent. The poisonings closed much of the city centre as the source was tracked, and the media from every continent poured into the city. The Russian agents responsible had escaped. Salisbury would forever be linked to Putin's merciless regime.

Are you familiar with 60s music? Several band members of Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich came from Salisbury or Wiltshire.
